There comes a time in affiliate marketing when the student becomes the teacher. After time spent learning the basics, and more, about Internet marketing you realize others could benefit from your knowledge. These “others” are downline members vital to your affiliate business.
While everyone has a knowledge set that can pass on to others, not all pass it on the right way. There are certain traits an effective affiliate mentor should have. These traits can mean the difference between mentoring a producing or non-producing downline team.
We’ll look at five traits of effective affiliate marketers. These traits can become part of your skill set. You can develop them to enhance your overall affiliate marketing operation.
Ability to Synthesize Knowledge
As an affiliate marketer, you glean information from a myriad of sources. You may read the article writing efforts of others who write in your niche. You may read trade magazines in your niche and attend trade shows.
You may take night courses in marketing and business. You may also be a student of Internet gurus and consistently study their methods. Of course, there is all the knowledge you glean from your own affiliate upline.
You can take all that knowledge and synthesize all the important stuff. You can turn that knowledge into an original training program designed by you.
Effective affiliate mentors learn to digest important information. They then present it clearly in a re-formulated fashion to suit there downline’s needs.
Ability to Recognize Individual Talents
Let’s face it, we’re not all cut from the same cloth. Every one of your downline members is different.
To be an effective affiliate mentor you have to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of individual members. Once you do, you motivate them to build on their strengths. You also motivate them to improve in areas they lack in, or abandon activities not suited to them.
Some affiliate members will excel at some marketing initiatives and will be fish out of water in others. Learn to recognize who can do what. Help them build their individual businesses according to their strengths.
Ability to Inspire
This goes hand in hand with the above point. Once you motivate a member to build on their strengths, inspire them to continue. It’s one thing to motivate initially a downline member into action.
Inspiration encourages them to take sustained action. This is because, in their heart, they believe in the potential of the affiliate program. That belief comes from an effective mentor.
An effective affiliate mentor shows his downline the big picture. He not only motivates by telling members there’s a pot at the end of the rainbow so-to-speak. He tells them what the pot consists of and what they can parlay its contents into when they succeed. This gives downline member goals that they can work to achieve.
Ability to Adjust and Modify Standard Training Modules
Your affiliate program manager may have a set, standard downline training module that you can access as needed. However, as we said above, not all affiliate downline members are alike. Effective affiliate mentors adjust or modify training modules to suit individuals.
You may train one downline member on article marketing and e-mail campaigns differently than you would another. Some may have an innate aptitude for writing and require only the basic tenets of article marketing.
Others may require in-depth article construction knowledge. They may require this before you can even talk about article submission and article distribution.
Ability to Recognize Leaders
It’s only natural within a team setting that leaders and followers will exist. Your job as an effective affiliate mentor is to recognize who the leaders are in your group.
Recognizing and promoting leaders helps your business in two ways. First, those you place in leadership positions, and reward with bonuses, tend to stay with the affiliate program. Recognizing leaders reduces affiliate member attrition because they see you value their efforts and promote accordingly.
Second, you build your tier two, and beyond, income. People you promote to leadership positions normally have that go-get-em attitude that produces results; meaning revenue streams. They then build their downline, which helps you as well. Recognize leaders to build a strong structural base for your entire affiliate program.
Work to better understand and develop the five traits of effective affiliate mentors. Devote the time necessary to putting these traits into practice as you run your affiliate business.
Practicing these traits makes perfect. They afford you the perfect opportunity to take your affiliate business to the next level.
