How Can Affiliate Marketers Avoid Failure?

DavesbizAffiliate Programs

The number of people embarking on an affiliate marketing business is increasing each day. Most people lead busy lives and they are convinced that affiliate marketing is one of the easiest ways to earn money on the internet. They are convinced that they can build an affiliate business in their spare time. It is possible to succeed in your spare time and many have done it, however a much larger number have failed.

There are some common mistakes that newbies make when deciding to embark on an affiliate marketing business. The following are just some of the issues that any person should consider before starting their affiliate marketing career.

1. Spend time on research before choosing the merchant you want to represent as an affiliate. This seems like stating the obvious and people experienced in any other form of business would do this instinctively. When clever ads pop up, promising quick wealth with a particular affiliate program, the newbie can be tempted to jump at the offer before checking it out. Take your time and do your research to ensure it is not a scam, because it is your reputation at stake if you are going to promote it.

2. Make a decision on how many hours a week you can spend on working your new affiliate marketing business. Then get a timetable and block out chunks of time during the week that you are going to work on your business. Advise anyone in your household who needs to know that these are the times that you can’t be distracted. You must stick to this timetable unless there is an emergency or something really important.

3. After putting the second step above in place, you may need to make sacrifices in other areas of your life. Most people will need to continue working in their job or business for financial reasons and this will be a priority. You may have to drastically reduce your time watching T.V. or other leisure activities. This is a time to work out what is important in your life so that when you are resting it is true quality time benefitting you and your family.

4. Stick to a budget. Affiliate marketing is one of the cheapest businesses to operate. However anyone serious about making their business successful will require some expenditure. The good news is that most of the best sources of promoting online are free.

5. If the affiliate program you are joining does not have a mentoring group or forum, then join an outside forum. If you are in an appropriate forum, you can post a question and get answers from those who have succeeded in internet business. Ensure that any advice you get is unbiased and not from someone pushing their own business. You will be associating yourself with successful people and hoping that their success will be a good influence on you.

There are many other challenges that individuals may face when starting or operating an affiliate marketing business. Eliminating all of the usual mistakes that people make will not guarantee success. In addition to making the right decisions at the start, you need to work hard and smart. Focus on the promotional methods that work and don’t be side tracked by those that don’t.

When the going gets tough and it all seems too hard, just remember the times you find it hard in your job or business. Write down the reasons why you are doing this business. Focus on the benefits to you and your family. This will motivate you to persevere through the difficult times.

Talk the Talk to Form a Connection with Your Down-Line

jsladerAffiliate Programs

To achieve success as an internet marketer you need to have the help of others. Those others, to you, are your immediate down-line who help drive sales and extra revenue for your affiliate marketing business. You have to utilize all the communication methods available to you to form a connection with this valuable down-line of yours.

How you choose to communicate with your down-line is a matter of personal preferences, theirs, and yours. When talking to your down-line team as one big group you may choose a different method than you would for smaller team meetings. Whatever you choose, the thing is you are making an effort to connect through two-way communication.

Your down-line wants you talking to them. They want this talk on a regular basis. Some of your team members may require more communication then others. That’s fine; the thing is to make sure you confer with every individual member of your team regularly as often as each requires.

A great way to communicate with your down-line is through a simple phone call. This can be individually tailored calls or a general group conference call. Here informal conversation and sharing of ideas is the order of the day. You can talk freely and expand on topics more with a phone conversation. Typing text messages or e-mails can hinder communication sometimes as no one wants to write volumes of text. Speaking casually on the phone allows for detailed communication, and with less effort.

A video-conferencing call is one way to connect with your down-line. It’s the next best thing to being in a room with a person or persons. Here you get to see and hear your down-line and get a better sense of their feelings and concerns about a subject. If they start hurling tomatoes at the screen, you know you’ve touched a nerve and have to work out some issues with them. Video-conferencing allows you to read facial expressions and see the feelings beneath the words spoken.

A newsletter sent out once a week, or month, is suitable for connecting with your down-line. It’s better if you invite comments on the newsletter with a promise of a response to the comments. This way the newsletter is a conduit for a two-way conversation between you and a down-line member. An e-mail newsletter transmits quickly and allows for quick responses by your team.

If you can swing face-to-face meetings with your group, or even individual members, you should do it. There is something right about good old-fashioned human contact business dealings. With internet businesses, it happens less and less. When actual in-person meetings take place with your team, its usually refreshing and inspiring for all who attend. Make the most of these opportunities to connect with and train your down-line. They will appreciate the social aspect of the meetings as well as the chance to get hands-on practical training about affiliate products.

Even text chat meetings are a good way to connect with your team. Most people are readily available for text chats, and like the connection they can make with a person through it, while still choosing to maintain their privacy with no visuals. If you have introverted down-liners, who prefer this method of communication for forming a connection with you, then accommodate their wishes.

Affiliate marketing means developing your down-line for productivity through making a connection with them. When you connect with them through your communication efforts, you gain their attention. When you gain their attention, you can train, inspire, and motivate them to action. That action will help theirs, and your affiliate business grow.

Make Money With Affiliate Program Online

sojul_nipAffiliate Programs

It’s very possible to make money with affiliate programs online. If you’re not familiar with affiliate marketing, basically all you do is market other peoples products. They give you a unique url and you place this url on your webpages, and blogs for example, and when someone clicks on your link and they make a purchase you get a commission for the sale.

Back to making money with affiliate programs online…there are a few major affiliate networks where you can select from a whole range of products. The big one is clickbank, followed by paydotcom and commission junction.

There are more than these, and there are also private affiliate programs. It’s best to get a combination of both but those three are enough to get your started. You sign up with the affiliate network and you get your unique url for any product that you want to promote.

Sounds easy enough doesn’t it? Just put up a blog, squidoo, or hub-page, then write some content and put your link in there somewhere, then get traffic to it and bam, you’re making money.

Unfortunately it’s much harder than that to make money with affiliate marketing. It used to be that easy, back in the ‘glory days’ before the Google slap. Maybe you haven’t heard of the Google slap, but don’t worry too much about it. Basically Google changed their algorithm with their pay per click advertising network Adwords which meant you had to make your adcopy, keywords and landing page in allignment. But like I said don’t worry about that too much. Back to the plan….

It all starts with a keyword, someone enters a keyword in Google and they click on a relevant website, and they possibly might find what they are looking for and make a purchase. How do you make this your website?

You need to get your website seen, so this means generating traffic, and there are several means to do this - you’ve got free methods such as article marketing, search engine optimization, and forum marketing. Then you’ve got your paid methods which includes pay per click advertising, such as with Google Adwords which I mentioned briefly above.

You need to find the right keyword, you want to get keywords that people are typing in when they want to buy something, a keyword such as “buy ipod nano 4gb”. You want keywords that get a good search volume but not too much competition, it’s a tough equilibrium but it works.

You need to make your website relevant. Give the searcher what they are looking for. Answer any questions they may have about the product before they ask them. How do you know what they are? Forum research is the way.

If you can select a ‘late buying cycle’ keyword, make a site that gives the searcher what they are looking for, and get traffic to that site, you will make money. It is very complicated and there is a lot to it. The best thing is that you do have resources out there to help you.

What you do need is a complete resource with keyword tools, web site builders, web site templates, information on building landing pages, organizing campaigns, knowing which keywords to select, how to write articles, etc.

The more complete the resource, the higher likelihood you’ll have in making tons of money online. Be careful though, there are many scams out there. You’re best off with a membership site rather than an ebook since you will always get more support with a membership site not to mention constantly updated information on the topic. New strategies and so forth and coming out all the time, so this is important.

Top Five Reasons Why Affiliate Marketers Fail

canuckbobAffiliate Programs

Affiliate marketing is a web-based marketing practice in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate’s marketing efforts. Affiliate marketing is also the name of the industry where a number of different companies and individuals are performing this form of internet marketing.

This includes affiliate networks, affiliate management companies and in-house affiliate managers, specialized 3rd party vendors, and various types of affiliates or publishers who promote the products and services of their partners. Affiliate marketing is driven by entrepreneurs who are working at the forefront of internet marketing.

Affiliate marketing is supposed to be about long-term and mutually beneficial partnerships between product owners and affiliates. It’s a fun and exciting home business that you can run from your personal computer or laptop. Affiliate Marketing is basically a revenue sharing venture between a website owner and an online merchant and is considered one of the best ways to earn money online.

Affiliate marketing is often called; performance based marketing, because you don’t pay the advertiser or product promoter until they sell something. Affiliate marketing is a solid and very effective web marketing tool and appears to be, at the moment, an industry dominated by top performing super affiliates.

Marketing material is provided by most of the product owners or companies but promoting a particular product can be a challenge if you are new to internet marketing and don’t have the proper guidance.

Most Affiliates engage in a variety of internet marketing tactics but one of the most popular seems to be Banner Advertising. Affiliates place the ads of companies on their websites and place a tracking code for these ads into their HTML code. This allows Affiliates to track how many visitors actually clicked on the banner to visit the company’s website.

Many Affiliates fail for numerous reasons but there are several that seem to stand out. First of all many of them don’t realize how much work is involved in marketing a product or service online. They go into the program thinking if they build it they will come.

Unfortunately that only worked for “The Field of Dreams” which is where some of them seem to be residing. After you’ve built your website then the real fun begins when you try to attract targeted traffic to your products.

Another concept some Affiliates don’t seem to grasp is that you not only want first time visitors but you also want return customers and this is where list building comes into play.

You need an Opt-in Form or Squeeze Page on your site with a free offer to entice them to enter their vital information such as their email address and name. When you have your list built you can then email different offers to your members when they become available.

Some Affiliates also make the mistake, when they’re starting out, of paying for traffic. They either get caught up in the nightmare of Adwords, which is what it can be if you don’t know what you’re doing, or they throw money at sites who offer 10,000 targeted visitors a day for $20.00.

Adwords and Google is a great traffic generation tool for experienced marketers who know how to get their site ranked as cheaply as possible.

Other Affiliates make the mistake of not understanding or using the products their promoting. You have to believe in what you’re selling and know what problem the product can solve or what advantage it can offer the perspective client.

And finally, going back to the idea if you build it they will come, this only works if you fill your website with a lot of quality content. Content drives traffic which drives sales. Without quality content you are doomed to failure even before you begin.

Affiliate marketing is a legitimate and effective method of making money online, but if you don’t have the proper marketing plan in place you won’t be around for the long term.
