Why an Autoresponder is Vital to Affiliates

Autoresponders are one of the vital tools that turn you marketing efforts into a business. You’re an affiliate marketer, or want to be right? The only way to make your marketing into a business is to have customers.

Did you ever hear of an offline business that did not have customers, whether it is a tiny shop or IBM or Toyota? As an affiliate you have many advantages over other businesses, but so long as you send prospects directly to the merchant’s site you have no customers. That means you have no business.

Maybe you don’t want a business because you think it is a trap, and that you will end up going to an office wearing a suit and tie, and all that stuff. Not at all. A business is something you run to make money in a systematic way. That’s it.

To put some system into your affiliate business and to get customers, you need an autoresponder. It is that simple. I will admit that I failed to do this for ages, and then got an autoresponder system I could put on my site, but it did not work well.

Sure it saved money, but what I did not realise then was that it was losing me much more money, and preventing me from doing thing that would make money. How come? Well, I wanted to promote a product and offer a free report, but I needed a proper autoresponder for that.

Also, I knew that people need to come into contact with a shop or business several times before they buy - there are exceptions, but on average it takes seven contacts to sell.

Without one you are losing a lot of sales

Without an autoresponder, you are probably losing four sales for every five people that visit your site or promotional page.

You don’t just get a system that sends out messages with an autoresponder system. Here are a few of the things you will get:

1. When you enter your messages it checks them for spam rating, and if it high warns you to edit it. You want a very low spam rating for your messages to get through.
2. About two-thirds of your email messages get through to prospects. A good autoresponder service will get over 95 per cent through - that means you reach 50 per cent more people, which is worth a lot.
3. Forms where people can sign up, which you can customise without knowing any code. You just add them where you want.
4. Tracking, so you can see where the leads are coming from.
5. The ability to broadcast a message to all prospects.

5 Ways to Start Affiliate Marketing

There are so many products you can promote as an affiliate, that it can be difficult to know where to start. You want the best products for your affiliate marketing associate program, and here are 5 ways to find ones that both suit you and can make money.

1. Become an affiliate to one of the leading and latest affiliate marketing programs. This is easy to do, as you choose a product you have bought to find out about affiliate marketing and associate programs.

This sounds good, but is actually difficult to turn into a regular profit. The reason is simply that when the product was launched, the author will have done joint ventures with many other leading marketers, so you will find it hard to compete. However, you can include it in your list if you are able to market it at low cost, such as with a review on your website.

2. Follow your interests. If you have a hobby, and have plenty of knowledge about it, then this is worth looking into.

The question here is whether there are suitable products in that niche. For example, if you are a keen skier, you will need to find instructional e-books or video sets on how to ski or improve your skiing. There should be some around, and it will not be too difficult to write articles about this subject. Of course, if you are an expert, then you can get your own e-book written, which is taking you out of affiliate marketing, but highly recommended. In any case, you will need some compatible products to market as an affiliate.

Beware, though, because many hobbies do not have suitable products for you to market, or if they do, the markets are highly competitive.

3. Look in the big markets, such as weight loss and diet, stock and foreign exchange trading, make money online.

One thing you can be sure about all these big markets is that there are plenty of people who are desperate to succeed with suitable products. The sort of product you want here is one that sounds simple and easy. That is what people want - an easy and simple solution to their problems, whether it is a lack of money or an excess of fat.

These markets are competitive, but you can find sub-niches where you have a chance of competing.

4. Go to Clickbank.com and look for products in any of the main niches that have high gravity and a commission of $20 or more.

This is the marketer’s approach. First, you want to sell products that will give you a reasonable income for each referral, and you want to market products with high gravity, as these means they are selling well.

This method can be used in conjunction with the others.

Go where the money is

5. Go where the money is! This is somewhat similar to #3, but you can start searching for hot markets in Amazon.com or EBay.com, and many find some that are not in obvious categories.

Once you have found some hot topics, you then go to Clickbank or Commission Junction to find suitable products, and then you want to market to a sub-niche, which is found by searching for keywords without too much competition.

This is the method I recommend, although #3 and #4 can also work well.

The 4 Deadly Sins of Affiliate Marketing

Success stories are all over the place about affiliate marketing and how it can make you thousands of dollars a month with very little work involved. While it’s true that you can achieve great financial reward through affiliate marketing, you must avoid the sins that have spelled disaster for so many others trying to make their fortune online.

Deadly Sin #1: Ignorance and Lack of Knowledge
There is no truth to the get-rich-quick hype. Some marketers manage to begin making good money with a few weeks. But this comes after focused and committed daily work to build their site and gain traffic. Affiliate marketing is not simply promoting a merchant’s products and getting paid for it. The One, Two, Three, Punch System to Building a Solid Opt-In List

Developing your internet business has led you to realize that you must build a stronger and wider opt-in email list if you are to succeed big time. Here’s the one, two three punch system to creating an list of interested customers to grow your business.

It happens. You work hard, invest money in how-to programs and hand-holding help reports trying to make your internet business blossom and bloom and seed your future with financial independence. More often than not you end up losing more money than you make when you start out and quickly realize that your email list of interested readers and customers is your best shot at making any long-term income online. Or worse yet, you have a big list of subscribers but you just aren’t making much money through your promotions to them.

What’s the deal? Why are so many others coveting their email lists and posting their Paypal and ClickBank sales reports as proof of their pudding while you flounder in the puddle just trying to make ends meet? Most often the error lies in your promotion and your attitude, what you offer them and what you don’t. Sometimes what you don’t offer is more important than what you do.

The One: Get their trust.
Just setting up an opt-in list does not make you their go-to person. The Three: Make friends and join together.
Look for successful marketers that have large, popular email lists. It may be a surprise but many people are willing to share their knowledge. It makes them look good. You can benefit from their experience and learn what works and what doesn’t. In the process you can also suggest a joint venture with them. If the person’s list is larger than your own, offer to promote to their list a number of times more to provide equal value.

The Punch:
As the saying goes, the money is in the list. Opt-in lists start with your first sign-up, and as your list grows, you should work to provide your subscribers valuable content. This will keep them on your list and more than willing to buy from you when you do have something of value to offer them.
